This detached 1920s ‘metroland’ property has been extended from two to four storeys. A master bedroom suite including an en-suite bathroom and walk-in dressing room has been created in the attic with new dormers and full height picture windows with shutters for ventilation.
The site gently slopes away to the rear which allowed us to create a kitchen dining space on the lower ground level which has a predominantly glazed elevation to the garden opening onto a hard landscaped patio. At the original ground floor level, an extension houses a new reading room/library which opens up to the side to an external terrace also accessed from the rear reception room via a sliding glazed screen.
The existing traditional material palette of plain clay tiles, red rubber bricks and stucco has been incorporated but in a contemporary reinterpretation, for example terracotta roof tiles used as vertical cladding.
