A splendid doubled fronted Victorian house in Muswell Hill has been refurbished, remodelled and extended upwards, outwards to the rear and below with a basement to create a bright, spacious and flexible home for a growing family.

At ground floor the property has been extended outwards to the rear to create a new kitchen/dining space which encompasses the existing rear reception room, creating one large open space glazed along the full width to the garden. At first floor a new extension cantilevers outboard beyond the alignment of the ground floor, housing the bathroom to the master bedroom suite. At second floor level the existing attic footprint has been remodelled/enlarged to create a study, guest bedroom and utility space. The new basement houses a cinema room, guest bedroom and bathroom.

Internally all floor finishes are in a grey washed oak with a herring-bone pattern to the ground floor, the kitchen and external patio are finished in polished concrete. Walnut is used in the kitchen to soften the palette and to complement the dining furniture. The same approach is adopted in the bathrooms with cabinetry in iroko to warm up the neutral grey back drop.   Externally  the new extensions are built in reclaimed London stock brickwork. The glazed screens have bronze anodized frames deep-set into the elevations with anodized bronze aluminium soffits and cills. Structural glazed rooflights have been added to allow light into the middle of the house these sit within a sedum grass roof. The remodelled study to the attic is clad in zinc.
