This handsome semi-detached Victorian villa sits in the heart of the De Beauvoir Conservation Area. The existing property was arranged over three levels and over the years had been extended with incremental extensions to the side and rear.
Previous additions were demolished and rebuilt to link directly with the three existing levels with rustication, mouldings, and railings to match the original. An additional basement level has been created under the patio to house a cinema and games room, additional bedroom, utility, and bathroom. A lightwell to the edge of the patio allows light to penetrate into this level. The memory of an underground culvert running through the site is visible in the brickwork in the lightwell.
Fret cut anodised aluminium ‘mashrabiya screens’ enhance the bronze glazing frames allowing diffused light to filter into the rooms beyond.
