The property is sited on a hill with the rear garden falling away to the south. Over the years the house had been re-fashioned internally, and externally extended incrementally leaving it with a rather cluttered rear façade.  Internally the ground floor was arranged over a number of levels none of which related to the garden either visually or physically. This also meant that the internal space was fragmented and hard to orientate through. As with a number of these projects the key move was to resite the levels so that the house connected successfully with the garden and benefited from its southerly aspect.

To do this we created a new semi-basement below the ground floor level, creating direct level access with a re-leveled garden. The main kitchen / dining space is situated at this level along with a TV snug making it the main living zone of the house. A contemporary oak stair takes you back up to ground floor level to the main hallway via a kids hang out space situated above the kitchen. Beyond the generous hallway are two more formal reception rooms. The upper levels consist of a master bedroom suite, nanny / guest room with en-suite, further bedrooms for the kids and a study.

Externally to the rear the property has been remodelled on three levels in brickwork with large format picture windows and sliding glazed screens finished in bronze aluminum with punctured reveals in the same material. At all three levels picture windows have the benefit of open vistas down the hill to the south.

The same brick has been used to form the raised planters around the patio, the patio itself is finished in polished concrete as is the kitchen internally. A white faced kitchen with oak details and marble worktops and splashback provide the colour palette for the kitchen.
