The clients had a grown-up family and were not looking to create a great deal of additional space. What they required as much as anything was for the original space to work better for them. The original kitchen extension was demolished and a slightly larger remodeled version replaced it. The new extension was predominantly glazed exploiting fantastic views to the south over the mature garden. To the adjacent side, the extension opens up to a small terrace which in turn opens up to the rear reception room. In the summer months, this acts as an additional inside/outside room linking the kitchen/diner back to the main body of the house. The new extension is clad in vertical slatted iroko battens. The new terrace is edged with a structural glazed balustrade, a new stair connects the terrace to the lower patio and on to the garden beyond.
