De Beauvoir House

A carefully restored Grade II listed town house in the De Beauvoir Conservation Area, Hackney. Like many properties in De Beauvoir the house suffered from a dark, rather cramped lower ground floor level. The new lower ground floor has been ‘dug out’ to a new reduced level to achieve a much more geneous open plan volume.  Extended outwards to the rear with full-height glazed screens to the garden and side aspects, with a further glazed rooflight above. The property also benefits from a newly planted rear garden created by the owners along with their landscape consultants. A sitting area has been located to the front of the floor plate, the kitchen sits centrally with a dining and TV zone to the rear.

Formal reception rooms to the upper ground floor have been faithfully restored, the clients having a keen eye for historical accuracy. A new master bedroom suite has been created on the first floor with a dressing area and two small accompanying shower rooms. Internally all floor finishes are in a dark stained oak with the kitchen and dining area finished in polished concrete. Externally the new extension is built in reclaimed london stock brickwork. The glazed screens have bronze anodized frames deep set into the elevations with anodized bronze aluminium soffits, reveals and cills.
