A proud, grand Victorian house purchased in a somewhat distressed state has been completely refurbished and extended to create a wonderful family home. The house retained almost all its original features so internally only minor adjustments have been made to the layout such as opening up adjoining rooms and re-configuring of bathroom and utility spaces. In the main body of the house we have concentrated mainly on restoring and replacing the original fabric of the house. Skirtings, architraves, picture rails, cornicing, windows and doors have either been replaced or restored to bring the home back to its former glory.

The house has been extended outboard into the garden to create an ‘L-shaped’ kitchen / dining space with an entirely glazed profile to the garden. A new external patio area has been cut into the existing landscape allowing for a seamless transition to the outside space.

The two generous receptions rooms to the ground floor have been opened up with bi-fold doors. A similar configuration exists between the front reception room and the hallway creating an elevated scale to this level.

A similar configuration has been established at first floor level creating a master bedroom suite using the whole floor plate. The bedroom sited to the quieter rear with dressing area and ensuite bathroom to the front. Childrens bedrooms and bathroom are sited on the second floor. A study and guest bedroom are placed at the half landing levels to the rear.

Internally all floor finishes are in oak with a herringbone pattern to the ground floor. Externally the herringbone continues in the design of the patio. The extension and external hard landscaping is built in a reclaimed yellow gaunt brick. The glazed screens have bronze anodized frames deep set into the elevations with anodized bronze aluminium soffits, reveals and cills. A structurally glazed rooflight has been added to allow light into the middle of the house, and sits within a sedum grass roof.
