When the owners purchased this property it was the only one in the street without a side extension, it was ‘the missing tooth’. Maximising planning gain was therefore reasonably straightforward. Most original detailing (cornicing, skirtings and architraves) had been lost, and the clients were keen to embrace the blank canvas to adopt a contemporary approach throughout, including replacing the existing Victorian stair with an open slatted oak stair top to bottom.
Both internally and externally the material palette is predominantly oak and silver-grey granite. Externally the fenestration is large fixed pane glazed screens in oak frames, oak shutters, and a sliding glazed oak door. The lower level extension is clad in vertical slatted oak panels alongside reclaimed London stocks. The same material vocabulary repeats up through the upper levels of the house.
